Greatest Gameshow Fam Trip Round Up
As promised, the 2019 LCS fam trip was our biggest and best event yet! The weekend extravaganza saw 18 agents and 40 representatives from LCS venues and suppliers enjoy an action-packed jaunt around some of the City’s finest venues with games to play and prizes to be won along the way.
The welcome exhibition
Proceedings kicked off on Friday night with a lively event at the Postal Museum where our guests got to visit stands hosted by LCS members. The game element of the weekend started in earnest with a Wheel of Fortune parody as players circulated the room gathering clues from each stand. The collected letters - when arranged correctly - spelt out a famous game show catchphrase.
Bubbles and nibbles were served all night, courtesy of Clerkenwell Green. Lighting and sound was provided by Oxygen Events and Ya Hire showcased a range of their furniture on the night. A fabulous caricaturist from Blank Canvas Entertainment wowed the crowds with his brilliant pictures and a Scalextric supplied by Outstanding Events gave guests a chance to get into the spirit of the games. Visitors also got to explore the historic building and take a ride on the venue’s unique attraction, an old mail train that takes a journey through hidden, 100-yr-old underground tunnels.
As the evening went on, Right Angle Events, the creative geniuses behind the weekend’s activities, announced the teams and explained to the agents how the rest of the event would unfold.
Guests then headed off to their accommodation for the night. A big thanks to LCS members Thistle City Barbican, Crowne Plaza Kings Cross, Citadines Barbican, Crowne Plaza The City, The Montcalm and Dorsett City (pictured below) for their generous hospitality.
An early start
A hearty breakfast at Sadler’s Wells set everyone up for the day and teams were then sent off in Corporate Black Cabs to their starting points. Eight venues, eight games, hundreds of points to collect and dozens of prizes to win…
Barbican, Ironmongers’ Hall, Museum of London, Farmers & Fletchers Hall, 58VE, Bishopsgate Institute, Dorsett City and Thistle Barbican each hosted a game show from The Price is Right and Deal or No Deal to The Generation Game and Play Your Cards Right. It’s no exaggeration to say that everyone’s competitive juices were in full flow throughout the activities.
It was down to the enthusiasm and energy of our agent guests that the day was so much fun and went so well. We wanted to say a huge thank you to Lauren from Vista, Nadia and Tom from Flavour Venues, Sally and Vicky from Ellis Salsby, Sarah from Kuoni, Amy and Magdalena from Venues for Business, Mary and Darlene from Brief 2 Events, Cristina from Universal City Conferences, Alison and Michelle from Click Travel, Paul from Garfit Group, Ben from Hire Space, Natasha from Orange Door and Andrea and Daisy from Right Angle Events.
Simon from Right Angle Events totted up the scores as the morning went on. He also threw in the occasional Brucey Bonus with quick fire questions and challenges on the Greatest Gameshow WhatsApp group. (Some teams fared better than others… Autocorrect getting the blame for many a mistake!)
Spot prizes ranged from theatre tickets, meals out and luxury hampers to speed boat rides, walking tours and hotel stays – and of course the obligatory cuddly toy! A huge thanks to everyone who donated gifts - Cavendish Venues, Museum of London, Crowne Plaza Kings Cross, etc. Venues – St Pauls, Farmers & Fletchers in the City, Ironmongers Hall, Sadler’s Wells, St Paul’s Cathedral, Thistle City Barbican and Trinity House.
Re-fuel at Skinners Hall
A much needed - and appreciated - lunch was served at member venue Skinners Hall. Stories were swapped, brows mopped and once everybody had regained their strength, battle lines were re-drawn and the teams set off to complete the circuit of challenges.
And the winners were…
The Re: play Bar at Thistle City Barbican hosted a fabulous finish-line celebration with a prize-giving and food and drinks.
Organiser Paul Martins says, ‘everyone who attended the day was a winner in my eyes, but in the end, first place went to ‘I’ll Have a ‘P’ Please, Bob.’
The post-match celebrations
All team members took a short break back at their hotels to get ready for the weekend’s finale – a reception with food and drinks at Aviary at the Royal London Montcalm Hotel.
‘Working collectively through the LCS Fam Trip allows for stronger, engaging business opportunities which is how our member venues can maximise on their London City Selection membership,’ says Paul. ‘I’m so proud to work with such excellent event venue professionals to make it happen. Special thanks must go to our LCS partners Right Angle Events, Andrew Lunn Photography, Outstanding Events, Corporate Black Cabs and Blank Canvas Entertainment. We have a progressive LCS Board with exciting activities planned for the year ahead. The next one is the LCS Big City Site Visit on 23rd July 2019 where we’ll be connecting quality buyers with our members again.’
